Joe Coburn

Joe Coburn is a trial lawyer with extensive experience in both civil and criminal litigation and has prevailed for his clients in extremely complex and contentious matters.

After a year serving as a law clerk for the Honorable Robert H. Cleland in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, Joe began his career working for corporate firms, including Jones Day in Cleveland and Schiff Hardin in Chicago, where he represented multinational corporations in complex civil litigation and individuals facing white-collar criminal charges in federal and state courts across the United States. This work resulted in numerous successful fraud and product liability defenses, including a dismissal of criminal wire fraud charges after a multi-week trial in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan.

After seven years of corporate defense work, Joe became an assistant public defender in the Cuyahoga County Public Defender Office, where his work focused on representing juveniles charged with felonies and parents who were the subject of actions brought by the county to remove their children from their homes. Joe’s work as a public defender resulted in numerous acquittals, dismissals, and family reunifications.

Joe is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Michigan Law School, where he was elected to the Order of the Coif.
